Shakira has discussed the turmoil she had to endure after splitting up with Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué. The 47 year-old singer spoke to Rolling Stone and delved into the pain she endured during the breakup. She describes it as the most excruciating experience of her life.

Shakira and Piqué’s relationship began in 2011. Nevertheless, it came to an end in 2022 due to allegations of infidelity involving the 37-year-old athlete and a younger model. Together, the former couple have two sons, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9. As you would expect given their high profile, the pair’s split made headlines globally.

Reflecting on the difficult time, Shakira told Rolling Stone: “The suffering I felt was probably the greatest I had ever experienced in my entire life, and it kept me from functioning at times.”
